Hilary Swank is an American actress famous for her award-winning performance in films such as 'Million-Dollar Baby' and "Boys Don't Cry'. This talented actress, who has won her the Academy Award twice for Best Actress she isn't afraid to take on roles that aren't glamorous. The passion for acting was obvious from the time she was a child, when at the age of 8 she revealed to her parents that she planned to become an actress. Her story illustrates how a person can overcome challenges in life with determination and hard work. She would retreat into her imagination as a teenager in order to escape the pressures of everyday life. She did well in dancing, swimming and gymnastics in high school. At the age of sixteen she went into Los Angeles with her mother to pursue an acting career. She debuted in the film industry through a tiny role in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer which she also played small parts in a variety of other films. She got her big break when she was chosen to play the lead on "The The Next Karate Kid" and was able to play a part that other actresses were also vying for.
