Nadia Elena Comaneci
When she competed in the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games, the athlete made headlines after scoring the world's first perfect ten on asymmetrical bars. She went on to achieve the same feat with six more perfect tens, making her the smallest Olympic All-around gold medallist at only 14 years old. The accomplishment of Nadia Comaneci was not only to get international attention, but she also helped put Romania onto the map. In achieving a result that was not possible and a sporting legend, she brought gymnastics into the spotlight of world interest. The sport changed the way people view female athletes.
